Part-time (100 hours/month) to coordinate children’s message in Sunday worship and sermon-time craft, develop weekday programs and nurture faith for preschool-6th grade youth, and assist pastor with confirmation ministry (7th-8th grade youth). BA or equivalent required. Experience in children, family and education ministries, a professed Christian who can show an understanding of Lutheran theology and work within that context, strong organizational and innovative skills, self-starter and self-motivator with the ability to work well with people and serve as part of a team.

Position:
Children's and Family Ministries Coordinator
This position is 100 hours per month (flexible hours).
Purpose: Zion Lutheran Church has established the position of Children and Family Ministries Coordinator for the sake of the faith of young people. The coordinator is to share God’s word and communicate God’s gracious love for us in Jesus Christ. The coordinator is to encourage children in their relationship with God and in the experiences and human relationships that support a life of faith.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
Provide and coordinate children’s message in worship services that work with the day’s Bible message/theme that encourages children to listen and participate in worship services.
Provide craft time during the sermon that engages the children and also coordinates well with the day’s Bible message/theme.
Supervise the Nursery staff; recruit and arrange weekly volunteers to assist the paid staff in the Nursery during worship services.
Work with the volunteer Sunday school superintendent and other Sunday school volunteers; when appropriate, lead activities and teach Sunday school.
Communicate, coordinate and develop weekly pre-school through 6th grade evening programs that nurture faith and build relationships, both peer relationships and intergenerational.
Share Bible stories with Zoo Crew Pre-School on request by Zoo Crew teachers and coordinate with the Pastor.
Work cooperatively with the partner churches and programs.
Assist the pastor with ministry among confirmation age (grades 7-9) students.
Participate and work cooperatively with church partners involved in the fundraising activities that benefit Lutherhaven camperships.
Support and work cooperatively with the leadership coordinator of Vacation Bible School (VBS), other volunteers and staff of Camp Lutherhaven involved with the VBS program in preparation through execution and cleanup of the VBS program at Zion.
Visit Camp Lutherhaven when young Zion members and program participants are campers during Zion week.
Coordinate ‘Souper Bowl of Caring’.
Coordinate and recruit volunteers for the annual Children’s Christmas Program/choir.
Coordinate the annual presentation of Bibles to second-graders in worship and education supporting the presentation.
Provide occasional whole-family and other activities as assigned by the Pastor.
- Communication and Supervision:
Report directly to the Pastor, who is the supervisor of the Children and Family Ministries Coordinator.
Regularly communicate with the Pastor and the office manager of Zion.
Provide a monthly report to the Board of Administration (BOA) for monthly meetings and attend BOA meetings on a quarterly basis.
Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings.
Meet, communicate, and work cooperatively with teams whose responsibilities and activities center on children and families.
Communicate with partner churches as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:
• Bachelor’s degree or appropriate college studies, preferably in education, child development or ministry.
• A professed Christian with a basic understanding of Lutheran theology.
• Organizational and innovative skills.
• Self-starter and self-motivator with the ability to work with people and staff, and to observe church policies.
• Experience working with volunteers.
